Trolls!! Its a subject matter that I have skated around for sometime now, as when it comes to painting Tom, Bert, and William, I really want to them justice. I have been doodling and collecting reference material for a while and have yet to come up with a final idea. Tolkien's own illustration was the obvious starting point, followed by Scandinavia with its rich tradition/folklore concerning trolls. Growing up the troll from The Three Billy Goats Gruff (Ladybird books) is also lurking somewhere, as are lots of the early RPG Trolls.
